09.2.05 - April writes:Hey, guys! I was just looking at my favorite bands website (that's you), and saw that "Wave to Make Friends" wasn't on the CD list to buy! What the deal is? The Comas Respond:dunno. you can order it from here pretty sure. get it.-a |
07.29.05 - Dustin writes:I just want to thank you guys for writing a really incredible album. I got Conductor back at the beginning of the year - I was going through a breakup at the time - and many of the songs seemed to encapsulate the feelings I was having with the words I couldn't find on my own. It sounds silly and sentimental, but your music gave me strength in moments when I felt like I had none. I don't know if you remember me, I did monitors for you guys the last two times you were at the Cradle, in Feb and May - both shows blew me away! I hope I'm not letting the cat out of the bag, but I was wondering what the name is of the unlisted track (#11) at the end of Conductor. Can't wait til you all come back thru Chapel Thrill again! The Comas Respond:Of course we remember you, best monitors on the whole damn tour. Thank you for writing man. It means absolutely everything to us when we hear stuff like this. Especially to me, because so much of what went into that record came from a total bummer of a time. It's nice to know that maybe some people think that maybe something good came from all of it. The name of that track is 'This Commercial'. There. The Cat's out. What kind of a jerk would want to keep a cat in a bag anyway. sickos I'll tell ya, sickos.-a |
04.08.05 - Jeremy writes:I'm curious about the song on the DVD that's not on the CD. I believe it's called connection (maybe bad connection). I have both the CD and the DVD and since the song is not on the CD I wonder if it can be obtained (my big word of the day) anywhere? The Comas Respond:It is called bad connexion'. Many were angered at the omission of that song from the record, and I would like to appologize to them now. I'm sorry. I don't remember what I was thinking. I love you. It will be available for download very soon.-a |
04.06.05 - James Kim writes:I love the effects you have used in the song Tonight On The WB in the beginning of the song. I just wanted to know how you achieved that sound, by the way is that a les paul your playing with? The Comas Respond:Actually, I believe that is indeed a les paul being played there. We used several different guitars per song so it's hard to say for sure. At the beginning of the song there is a slight amount of backward delay that is being generated from the green line-6 pedal. But the thing that makes that guitar line so kazoo like, is me doubling the melody by humming it into a distorted harmonica mic, and mixing it low.-a |
04.04.05 - Kevin Writes: I just heard Conductor for the first time about a month ago and I can't stop listening to it. Tell me about the band: where you're from, how long you've been around, how you formed, have any of you ever been in any other bands. Let's hear some stories. Thanks --Kevin The Comas Respond: I (Andy) have been writing songs and making music with friends and calling it The Comas since 1999. We started in a living room in Chapel Hill one winter after I had come back from Washington D.C. where I had just seen Spiritualized. I wanted to do that, whatever "that" was. Later, I found Nicole playing in a band around Chapel Hill called Barisol Guns. They were awesome, so I stole her. Cameron and I worked at a record store together, and although he was not to become the drummer for years to come, he was instrumental in the release of our first record. Nicole discovered the baby faced Matt while they both worked as a AV dorks at UNC. They met at a 'Queer Black Studies' convention and began discussing the finer points of rock and roll. Later, we went and saw him play at a kegger. Jason, the newest addition to the group was a long time friend from Wilmington NC where he played in an amazing band called Rodeo Boy. He and I moved to Brooklyn almost a year ago and we decided it would make sense if he just played in the band. So that's the abbreviated version. I'm afraid you'll have to wait for the biography for the juicier stuff. -a |
04.04.05 - Cheryl Writes: I just watched that Yahoo interview and found it really interesting and funny. I guess I was just wondering why the "big label" said no to Conductor? Were they high? And have you ever thought about sharing those songs you scrapped? I'm intrigued to hear this so called "crap"! LOVE YOU! --Cheryl The Comas Respond:Hey Cheryl. Unfortunately, the folks at the label were not high. If they were they may have discarded their preconceived notions of what the record was "supposed" to sound like, and loved it for what it was. However, it did not end up sounding enough like The Hives and/or The Vines. These were two names they kept dropping while we were in the studio spending their cash. And yes. Those recordings will see the light of day. Probably on this website. Because time is revealing them to be totally awesome. -a |
